Projects

The sectors we work in, the scale we work at, and what a project has to meet before we commit a team to it.

The Work We Take On

Nexus develops and delivers environmental, energy and sustainability projects between Europe and the Gulf. This page sets out the kind of work we take on, the sectors we operate in, and the conditions a project needs to meet before we commit a team to it.

We are deliberately specific about what we do not do. A firm that claims every sector and every scale is telling you it has no view, and on projects of this size a view is the thing you are buying.

Six Sectors, One Set Of Questions

The technology changes from one sector to the next. What does not change is what has to be true before a project is financeable.

Renewable Generation

Solar, wind and hybrid generation sized against a real load curve and a real connection date, rather than a headline capacity figure.

  • Resource and yield assessment
  • Connection date and curtailment risk
  • Offtake and revenue structuring

Waste & Resource Recovery

Turning municipal and industrial waste streams into energy, materials or heat, where the feedstock contract is structured as carefully as the plant.

  • Feedstock security and gate fees
  • Technology selection and permitting
  • Residue and offtake routes

Water & Wastewater

Treatment, reuse and desalination schemes judged on whole-life cost and on the tariff that has to carry them.

  • Treatment and reuse capacity
  • Tariff and concession structuring
  • Discharge consent and compliance

Industrial Decarbonisation

Cutting emissions and energy intensity inside plants that have to keep producing while the work is done.

  • Baseline and abatement modelling
  • Electrification and heat recovery
  • Measurement and verification

Grid, Storage & Flexibility

Storage and network assets whose value comes from availability and timing rather than from volume.

  • Revenue stacking and market access
  • Connection and ancillary services
  • Degradation and warranty terms

Sustainable Infrastructure

Public and private infrastructure where an environmental case and a financial case have to hold at the same time.

  • Feasibility and options appraisal
  • Concession and partnership structuring
  • Environmental consent management

The Bar A Project Has To Clear

We turn work down, and it is fairer to say why here than after a month of meetings. These are the conditions we test first.

  • Capital requirement from the mid eight figures upward

  • Located in Western Europe or the Gulf states

  • A sponsor with a defined mandate and the authority to decide

  • A revenue route that can be identified rather than assumed

  • A permitting path that exists in the relevant jurisdiction

  • Site control secured, or a credible route to securing it

  • Technology proven at the scale this project needs

  • A timetable that survives contact with the consent process

Every Project Starts With Whether It Should Exist

The first question we answer is not how to build it. It is whether the case holds. That answer is cheapest at the beginning and most expensive after financial close.

Bringing Us A Project

What sponsors ask before they put a project in front of us.

Umm Al Quwain Free Zone, United Arab Emirates

Because most of our work sits under confidentiality agreements that run past completion, and a sponsor who asked for discretion is entitled to it. We would rather show nothing than describe engagements vaguely enough to be deniable. Where a client agrees to be named, the project will appear here with their name on it.

Typically from the mid eight figures of capital upward. Below that, the structuring and governance we bring costs more than it returns, and we will tell you so rather than take the mandate and stretch it.

Western Europe and the Gulf states. That corridor is where our regulatory knowledge, our financing relationships and our delivery partners actually are. Outside it we would be learning the jurisdiction at your expense, and we will say so.

Not as a rule. We structure the capital and introduce the partners who invest, and keeping our position separate from the equity is what lets us give a sponsor an honest read on the risk.

Before the feasibility study is commissioned, if you have the choice. Most of a project's eventual cost is fixed by decisions taken in the first few months, when almost nothing has been spent. We also pick up projects that have stalled later, but the options available by then are narrower and more expensive.
